The Highway Departments responsibilities include road and bridge maintenance which consists of signing, graveling, mowing, paving, drainage, snow removal, along with bridge inspection/repair/replacement and culvert repair/replacement. The Highway Superintendent oversees 22 employees who help to maintain over 1,018 miles of roadway in Saline County. This consists of 7 miles of paved roads and 1,011 miles either gravel or dirt surfaced. In addition, there is oversight responsibility for 658 bridges and 2,967 culverts within Saline County. It is also the responsibility of the Highway Superintendent to prepare the annual report, annual budget, one and six year road plan and report directly to the County Commissioners.
